1.Before the freezing temperatures arrive you should detach all your hoses and place an insulated faucet cover on each hose bib.
2. Inspect weather-stripping around doors and windows and repair or replace if necessary. Caulk exterior joints around windows and doors. Caulking helps keep your house weather-tight and lowers heating bills.
3. Examine your roof/gutters/downspouts for debris. Your roof is often forgotten about because it is not at eye level to give you a subtle reminder every time you walk past it. Clear leaves, dirt, and pine needles from gutters and examine downspouts for damage or loose pieces. Check the flashing around your chimney and any openings in the roof, such as skylights for leaking problems.
4. Change the filter in your Heating and Air system according to the manufacturers recommendation. This will allow your furnace to run more efficiently. Now would also be a good time to have your system tuned up for Fall/Winter.
